That's when I knew my life had changed, that I had the opportunity to be something I've never been, and do something I never thought imaginable. I could take this chance with both hands, and who knows where it could take me. That was my choice.
Being Miss Birmingham has been the most incredible year of my life, something one could only ever dream of. Still to this day I believe I may wake up, with a wild story of a girl who became Miss Birmingham - until I realise that, in fact, is me. As the saying goes “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” - and I only ever thought something like this would be a dream - but alas I am most definitely awake.
I have had so many incredible memories during my year as Miss Birmingham, so many new friends I have met, and wonderful people I have had the honour of working with. When you try to describe to someone the adventures of Miss Birmingham; how you switched on the Christmas lights with The Lord Mayor, and ran a marathon for Birmingham Children's Cancer Treatment, you start to realise how none of this would have been possible without the support of the Miss England family. I have had the pleasure of being part of the wonderful Team North during my year, albeit their 'surrogate southerner', they have taught me so much about myself. Team North is full of the most wonderful and inspirational people you could meet, spending every chance they get to do something incredible - and that's just Mark!
Every waking moment in this year I have wondered how to make another person smile, to laugh, to make an impression on this city and to hold true to the Miss England ethos. Beauty is being the best possible version of yourself, on the inside and out. Being beautiful is not about how much make-up you wear and what your dress size is, being beautiful is making another person remember you once you've gone - for being something that made an impression on their lives. I hope that as I pass over my crown, I will have made an impression on someone's life, even if it is just a fleeting memory - that's all I ask. Being Miss Birmingham has truly been a gift; it has given me the privilege to be something I never thought possible, the opportunity to take chances I never thought I would get, and the responsibility to give something back by becoming so much more than I was one year ago.
I may be handing over my crown in 4 days time, but this is all part of the journey - every day takes us on a path of new opportunities, new chances and new choices to make. This year has made me the person I am today and a new journey ready to begin. Bring on the future, as I am ready to be even more than I am today.
Love your Miss Birmingham xx
