Preparation for the Big DayHaving the opportunity to run the Birmingham Great Run was given to me just over 3 weeks before the big day. Although it was a surprise it was such an honour to run for the wonderful charity that does so much for our city and patients of Birmingham.
Helping to raise awareness for my race, I had the opportunity to speak on BBC WM with Pete Morgan at breakfast, and Heart FM lunchtime news. Altogether I tried to get as much promotion of my run as possible.
The training was a bit tricky with the terrible weather we had the few weeks before the race and it was looking relatively gloomy in the severe forecast. Nonetheless, I had to be able to run the race and raise lots of money - so waterproofs on, I ventured out each day in to the West Midlands countryside.
The Great RunJust before the race I starting speaking to some girls at the start line which calmed my nerves for the start and the daunting run ahead. I bet a lovely girl called Louise, who ended up being my running partner / gossiper for the whole 13.1 miles!
Just over 8 miles around I saw a lovely photographer, Andrew Pearson, at the side of the road and cheered. A few days later he sent me this wonderful photograph.

This proves that I wore the sash and crown for the whole duration of the run :)
I'm not going to lie, the tiara may have smarted slightly but it gave me the opportunity to raise awareness for the wonderful charity and promote the brand of Miss England and the incredible work we do. 13.1 miles was completed in 2 hours 1 minute and 54 seconds.
The QEHB CharityYou can still donate to my run and give money to the QEHB Charity, the official charity for the Queen Elizabeth and Selly Oak Hospitals.
After the race I have been overwhelmed with support from the QEHB Charity and am truly blessed to be able to help this charity with other events they have during the year.
Now I am back out on the paths and trails for training for the Virgin Londaon Marathon, running 26.2 miles for the QEHB Charity, please check out my page about my progress and my training / fundraising events that leads to the NEXT big day!!
I ran the Birmingham Great Run for the QEHB Charity as I wanted to raise awareness for all the hard work they do that goes above and beyond the standard level of care to our Birmingham patients at the QE and Selly Oak hospitals.
Attending the QEHB Charity Best of care awards on the 17th October 2013 I was left speechless and humbled by the incredible work people do, dedicating their time to help.
QEHB Charity goal is to "achieve excellence in care by assisting with advances in research, patient care and the latest innovative equipment" and never have I felt so strongly to a cause than meeting the unsung heroes that help this incredible charity.
