My “New Year’s Resolution” for 2014 was to challenge myself more, come out of my comfort zone and try something new. This is when I got an email advertising the competition. I have always been advised by family, friends and photographers I have modelled for to apply for beauty competitions and catwalks so I took on their advice and this is why I entered to be the next “Miss Black Country 2014/15”. Since starting secondary school and turning a teen I have had trouble with my confidence, especially with the bullying I put up with during my second and third year being at the school due to my appearance. I had read reviews from girls that had previously entered pageants/competitions like Miss Black Country with their own stories similar to mine and heard how it had changed their lives giving them a variety of opportunities and most of all a confidence boost.
Since the age of 3 I have taken classes in Dance, Drama and Singing. From the age of 10 I have attended the same classes every Saturday at the same company, with the same faces and have always stayed in my comfort zone and stuck to a routine and career plan. This is when my career ideas changed slightly and I felt a change and a challenge were in order. During the end of February 2014 I joined a group of talented performers from around the West Midlands that were planning to put on a show at a big arena in Birmingham during April 2014.

KA-BU-KI, which means to sing, to dance, to act, are a West Midlands based theatre company that specialise in three aspects of the arts, Music, Dance, Acting. KA-BU-KI was set up by 2 university friends one being a dance choreographer and the other a vocal coach. Each individual that has joined KA-BU-KI so far has their own unique talent and dream, this is what makes the group so fresh. Some of which teach their own dance classes in their spare time, each a different style, that anyone can attend at a small fee to learn, meet new performers like themselves and to have fun. Since taking part in February I have learnt so much and am still continuing to learn.
