The past few weeks I have been organising my fundraising events to raise money for ‘Beauty With A Purpose’ to help sick and disadvantaged children around the world.
I have had quite a few ideas, some of which had already been done more than twice and some which included fee’s that were going to take a fair chunk out of the money I would raise, therefore I got my head together with the local community centre, Willenhall CHART, and discussed some options which were available.
One was doing a Dance and Drama Workshop once a week for children/young adults and charging a small fee which would then go to the charity.
Being a freelance dance and drama instructor this will help me gain more confidence when teaching classes and will also help me gain experience. So far I have taught 2 workshops, they were not as successful as I had hoped they would be, however I have taken this as a learning curve and I intend to use it as experience to make the next ones even better. I shall continue to teach the fundraising workshops each week and hopefully gain more interest and donations for the charity.
My main fundraising event, ‘Trainers and Tiaras’ will be taking place on the 1st June 2014 in which myself and around 15 others (Walsall Pacemakers) will be trekking 22 miles over the Malvern Hills for ‘Beauty With A Purpose’. When entering Miss Black Country 2014/15, I saw that there was an “Eco Wear” section where I had to create an outfit made completely from recycled items. I didn’t think I would have the imagination or the creativity to pull off what I did.
Being in the Miss England 2014 Finals, representing my region, the Black Country, has given me such a confidence boost which is exactly what I wanted from the competition and to also become a role model/inspiration for youngsters too.
Despite being given tasks to complete which have pushed me out of my comfort zone and brought out my inner Drama Queen, I am thoroughly enjoying every minute of my Miss England journey and look forward to meeting all the other finalists and simply having fun.
What has excited me even more for the finals was receiving an email this morning to confirm that my Evening Dress has been “Dispatched” and should be with me anytime this week. Eeeekkk, I hope it fits!
More from me soon!
