On Friday 11th April 2014 I was invited to the Easter service of St John’s Church of England Primary School in Walsall Wood. Every Easter year 3 and 4 present an Easter service at St John’s Church to their parents, friends and the public. ‘Africa’ is the topic year 3 and 4 have been working on since Christmas. On Wednesday 2nd April 2014 the teachers of St John’s C E Primary School took year 3 and 4 to London. Before watching a matinee performance of West Ends ‘The Lion King’ year 3 and 4 went on a tour of London’s most popular sights before heading to the Lyceum Theatre.
Dean Williams St John’s football coach from Walsall FC said that “The children enjoyed the whole day in London sightseeing and seeing The Lion King. We had a great time!”

The children of year 3 and 4 learnt songs from The Lion King and added dance routines. This was with the help of Creative Beat, a company that go into St John’s and take the children for lessons in Music, Dance and Drama. The children researched into tribal and animal masks making their own in which they wore and incorporated into their costumes for the performance at St John’s Church. The story and songs from The Lion King were incorporated and adapted to suite the Easter Story. The Easter Service performed by Year 3 and 4 was fantastic. My favourite part of the performance was when the children all created a ‘Circle of Life’ singing the classic hit from the musical. The performance was fantastic and brought a tear to my eye. The children and staff put in alot of time, effort and creativity into the performance and it was a big hit. Myself, families, friends and public who attended loved it.
I would like to thank St John’s Church of England Primary School in Walsall Wood for inviting me and would like to congratulate them on their success. I hope the children and staff of St John’s have a lovely Easter holiday and eat lots of eggs, they deserve it!
